What do our digital marketing students say?
One of our Digital Marketing & Social Media students, Carlotta, recently shared their experience studying at UCA:
You might wonder why there’s a digital marketing and social media degree at a creative university , but a better question might be why aren’t they all in creative universities?
When Carlotta joined UCA, she didn’t know what to expect from her course – but one of the best surprises has been how much choice, flexibility, and exposure you get from a place that cherishes and understands individuality:
“You can be very free creatively, you can be yourself. You’re surrounded by people like you, in your position. I didn’t know who I was before uni, now I know myself.
“I was always shy before, I just got on with my own work and didn’t take part in anything. All this collaboration and creativity has been so fun, I can’t imagine not getting involved any more.”
You don’t need to get stuck into everything, it’s up to you to find the things you want and pursue your passions. We’ll never face you in a direction that doesn’t interest you, but we’ll give you plenty of directions to choose from:
“There’s so many chances to do more than just your course. I did the Students’ Union’s social media, I won Volunteer of the Year, I won Society of the Year. I worked at Howbout, the social calendar app, I worked at Wiser Academy. All super useful as experience when looking for marketing jobs, I’m so experienced already.”
The experiences you have, in and out of the classroom, change every year. Marketing never stands still, so you won’t waste time on tools and techniques that won’t be useful when you graduate. Carlotta’s advice, which she had to take herself when she first joined, is never to restrict yourself:
“This is a course that lets you explore. So let your mind be open, think of lots of different ideas, lots of viewpoints. Don’t stick to one thing, be open to anything.
“I feel really prepared to work in a marketing department, wherever it is. I can create marketing campaigns, do business strategy. In terms of professional development, I’ve got those skills now. I’m confident I can do the job.”
